Safa Marwa, Jamaraat, Muslim Eid Celebration

As-Safa and al-Marwa

These are the two hillocks which the mother of Ishmael ran between and stood upon while searching for provisions and water; in Hajj people walk and run between these two hillocks in adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet.

The distance between Safa and Marwah is approximately 450 meters, so that seven trips amount to roughly 3.15 kilometers.

Jamarat

These are the places that Satan approached Abraham when he left his wife and son in Makkah, in order to make him hesitate. He took a few stones and pelted the Satan. During Hajj, Muslims throw stones at these pillars, in adherence to the Sunnah of their father, Abraham . They proclaim Satan an open enemy who must be resisted; this is done by resisting the satanic desires and obeying the commands of Allah and abstaining from the prohibitions.

There are three Jamarat in Mina: Jamratul Aqabah, Jamratul Wusta and Jamratus-Sughra. The distance between the Jamrat as-Sughra and Jamratul-Wusta is 150 meters and the distance between Jamratul-Aqabah and Jamratul-Wusta is 225 meters.

Muslim's Eid Celebrations

New Year Greeting

This is an Arabic word which means wish you well this year and years to come. It was written in calligraphy style called (tagra) which were used by the Ottoman sultans as a seal during the Islamic Khilaffa

Muslims have two celebrations in a year; Eid of Fitr, which is celebrated at the end of the Month of Ramadhan, and it signifies the end of the Fasting season. The second Eed festival is called Eed al-Adha, it is called such because Muslims seek nearness to Allah by slaughtering sacrificial animals, in adherence to the Sunnah of our father Ibraheem . He saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his son Ishmael, and the dreams of the Prophets are true. When he was about to sacrifice his son,

Allah said:

(So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy. And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, 'O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think.' He said, 'O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast. And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead. We called to him, 'O Ibraheem you have fulfilled the vision. Indeed We thus reward the doers of good.) (37:101-105)
